White Enamelware for Camping and Picnic Outfits! (1929 advertisement)

{HISTORY}

These two vintage mismatched enamelware cups are just the ticket for road trips, camping adventures, and a bevy of decorating delights. In great shape, here in the Vintage Kitchen, we love their cute handles and their his and hers character.

Chip free on the inside, they are still functional as beverage cups but also serve many other purposes, like water dippers, bird seed containers, scoops for bulk food, garden pots - the list could go on and on. Stylish companions to aluminum coffee pots, vintage enamelware is light in weight and sturdy in constitution,  so it is ideal for on-the-go travel adventures and rustic dining options.

Most popular in the United States between the 1870s and the 1930s, enamelware offered the perception of cleanliness and durability  - two very important concerns when it came to kitchen equipment. Unlike delicate china dishes, enamelware could withstand rough handling and long journeys - exciting features as Americans migrated west to homestead via wagon and then later via car.

But by the 1930s, with the introduction of ceramic bakeware, ovenware, and clear glass dishes, enamelware began to fall out of popularity as these new innovative products took over the market.

While never completely abandoning the kitchen altogether, enamelware still made an appearance in the latter half of the 20th century, but it changed in design from sanitary basics to bright colors. Even artistically designed patterns were added. Nowadays, they are fun collector's items that are useful in a variety of ways when it comes to kitchen, table, and garden displays, as well as handy storage organizers.

These two mismatched cups do not contain any manufacturing marks, but the small teacup-shaped one is older (most likely dating to the 1940s era) as it is heavier than the larger cup. Both are shiny and smooth, classic in shape and size, and feature black rims and black handles.
