Just living is not enough. One must have sunshine, freedom and a little flower. Hans Christian Anderson

{HISTORY}

Once upon a time, you could buy your dish collections piece by piece at the grocery store. Such was the case with this collection made by Bannockburn and offered for sale by Weingarten's, a long-time 20th-century southern grocery chain located in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana. Debuting in the early 1970's, the Bannockburn Collection made two complimentary dish patterns from American Ironstone that were hefty in weight and could hold up to everyday use. Named Sundance and Countryside, these 40 piece dish sets featured large flowers, a provincial style, and mix and match pieces for a sunny kitchen collection that was both cheerful and bright. These dishes may have been American made but they mirror the style of handpainted European dish designs from Italy and France giving them a timeless sense of provincial charm.

Originally described as black and yellow, this Countryside pattern depicting black-eyed susans contains hues that are closer to lemon and dark blue denim. Ricrac stripes, sponge painting and detailed dots add jaunty style and expressive emotion. You can't help but be happy about serving food on these sun-shiney plates.
