Vintage 1930s Homer Laughlin Georgian Gravy Boat with Underplate - Pink Floral Pattern
From the 1930s to the 1950s, two of Homer Laughlin's most popular dish designs were the Georgian and its predecessor the Georgian Eggshell. A body and a design style - not a pattern name - HL's Georgian debuted in the 1930s before giving way to the Georgian Eggshell. Both were similar in shape and overall design, but the Georgian contained more gold flourishes and the Georgian Eggshell was more delicate and lightweight in composition.
This gravy boat with matching underplate is from the earlier Georgian period, most likely made around 1933. The pattern name is unknown but what it lacks in specificity it more than makes up for in beauty. Featuring a pink, white and yellow floral pattern, this pair also contains decorative gold detailing and an embossed edge around the rim making it a pretty serving piece from every angle.
Any dish that made it through the tumultuous times of the Great Depression era is sure to bear some marks of turbulent history. The presence of two age-old pencil-point size chips on the interior may dissuade you from wanting to use it as a traditional gravy boat, but another delightful purpose awaits. Repurpose it as a succulent planter or a vase for short garden bouquets, and it instantly turns into an enchanting flower garden that adds visual interest to table centerpieces and kitchen shelves.
Bursting with a regency color palette, this floral pattern boasts shades of ice pink, pale cranberry, dove gray, marigold, emerald green, and gold. It's not always easy to find a gravy boat with its mate plate still intact, so this pair has been lucky to travel the decades together. A striking serving set ready for many more kitchen adventures, these two will add instant beauty to your kitchen and possibly your garden too.
