The anticipation of dessert as a finishing touch to a meal is an important bit of menu psychology. Balanced Recipes Cook Book, 1933

{HISTORY}

Here it is! The dish that has baked a thousand pies. Or so at least it seems. In our opinion, there is nothing better than an almost antique dish that looks as well loved as this one.

By this stage in the game, with its weathered patina and its cooking stains and its authentic discoloration, this pie dish has become not only a functional vessel but also a truly original character of the kitchen.

Just imagine how many pies this little beauty has seen in her day. In the oven, out of the oven. In the icebox, out of the fridge. On the counter,  in the pie safe. This one has seen every development in the kitchen since refrigerators became household staples. It's fun to imagine who her bakers were and what sort of pies they were making. Lemon Chiffon, Chocolate Ice Box, Strawberry Meringue, Candied Sweet Potato, Blackberry, Banana, Apple, Cherry... oh the possibilities!

Her adventures over the years haven't left her flawless. There a few insignificant hairline cracks on her side walls and some fading to her floral decoration, but you'd expect that sort of stuff from a dish that's been feeding people for almost 100 years. Sometimes it can be hard to wrap your head around history that happened so many decades before you were born, but thankfully we have dishes like this that remind us. Yes, of course, people baked and ate and served and desserted way back when. Yes, of course , they loved the process, loved the dessert and loved the dish just as much as we do today.
