{HISTORY}

Made in Crooksville, Ohio in 1927 or just after, this vintage Crooksville China Co. covered dish was the trendiest of trendsetters when it came to emerging dishware designs of the late 1920s. Part of Crooksville's Ivora series, it features an ivory body, an elegant shape, and a colorful floral pattern on both the lid and the base.

In 1927, Crooksville launched their Ivora series focusing on innovative designs and dynamic color palettes set against ivory backgrounds. When this covered dish debuted, ivoryware was the top choice in stylish design and all the potteries in America embraced the warm appeal of the soft white color palette.  As tastes changed from the previously popular bright white aesthetic that symbolized hygienic kitchens of the Victorian and Edwardian eras, ivoryware of the 1920s was an exciting, refreshing change in that it leaned more towards artistic and alluring patterns and shapes.

Cinched at the base, this covered dish curves up and out into a wide disc shape the size of a salad plate with handles on each end and a matching floral lid. So pretty, this server was originally intended for vegetables or sides, and is now a hard-to-find example of both a unique body shape and a vibrant color arrangement. It's a winning combination that made it so appealing and stylish in the 1920s and still makes it so visually striking today.

{CONDITION}

In beautiful almost-antique condition, this covered dish contains no chips or cracks. The transferware is bright, crisp, and clear. There is a very small discoloration spot on the top of the lid (about 1/4" inch in size) which is either a flaw that occurred during manufacturing or is a very old age spot. Whichever the case, it has been there for a very long time and is insignificant when it comes to the overall beauty of the pattern and the dish.  Please see photos.

{SIZE}

Measures 5.5" inches (height) x 10" inches (length handle to handle) x 8.5" inches (width)  and weighs just under 2 lbs.
