Fresh linen, sparkling silver, glass, and china, placed carefully on the table, supplemented with a low centerpiece of flowers, fruit or brightly colored vegetables give appetite for a meal and a promise of pleasant sociability. Edith Barber, 1940

{HISTORY}

Just like Edith said above, nothing instigates pleasant sociability like a pretty creamer in service for morning breakfast or afternoon tea time. This one was made in Arzberg, Bavaria between 1898 and 1904 by the Theodor Lehmann pottery

Like all famous German and Bavarian dishware makers of the 19th century, this creamer is a beauty every way you turn it. Made from the finest local kaolin clay and decorated with an array of colorful floral patterns and impressed designs, Bavarian porcelain is some of the most sought after in the world.

This creamer contains celery green lustreware, pink and white hibiscus style flowers, a scalloped rim and base, and an ear-shaped handle. What is especially unique about this porcelain piece is that it contains an entirely different aesthetic on the opposite side.  if you turn it around, the other side displays a much more simple design - there is no lustreware around the rim, the floral design becomes just one simple white bud and unique embossing details outline and draw attention to pronounced ribs of the round belly.  It's almost like having two different creamers in one and offers many different opportunities when it comes to styling.

Lovely with a variety of different antique pieces, check out the style guide below to see how pretty this one would look with other mix and match Victorian era dishware.
