YWCA Cookbook Bangkok 1961 - Rare Bi-Lingual English/Thai Cookbook

Regular price $85

Published by a Thai Princess. Edited by the wife of a United Nations Aid Misson worker. Compiled by the YWCA, who introduced the world to the first-ever Thai-American cookbook. This bi-lingual recipe collection has exotic history written all over it!

{HISTORY}

This very, very, very rare YWCA Cook Book, Bangkok 1961 edition is not only a fascinating look at international cooking during the early 1960's but it is also fascinating in the presentation department.

Containing 250 recipes contributed by the United States Overseas Mission Women's Club and compiled by the Bangkok YWCA board of directors, this cookbook was originally intended as a fundraiser for the Bangkok YWCA's day nursery. Beautifully bound with an illustrated cloth cover, it was published in 1961 by Thai Princess Prem Purachatra and this copy is hand-signed by the cookbook's editor with a lovely sentimental inscription to her sister.

The world's first Thai-American cookbook ever produced was published by the Bangkok YWCA in 1952. This 1961 cookbook was their seventh edition. Incredibly hard-to-find now this is a very special treasure in the Vintage Kitchen.

In addition to recipes written in Thai and English it also contains a bevy of mid-century advertisements (in both English and Thai), special feature sections and illustrations throughout.
