It took twelve years, the input of over five hundred women and a recipe archive spanning eighty years in order to bring this cookbook to fruition...

{HISTORY}

Educating farmers since 1877, Farm Journal Magazine has been a leader in agriculture journalism for over 140 years. Focusing on all aspects of farm life from animal welfare to science and technology to the joys and challenges of the country lifestyle, this go-to publication kept families informed and updated on all the latest news.

In 1959, they published their first Country Cookbook which featured from-scratch recipes made with homegrown ingredients. All thoroughly tested and approved by the Farm Journal's Country Kitchen in Philadelphia, PA, the recipes in this cookbook are the best of the best when it comes to 20th century locally grown, country food fare. The result of a lengthy collaboration (twelve years!), food editor Nell B. Nichols consulted over 500 farm wives across the country and combed the magazine's 80 years of recipe archives in order to compile a cookbook that would delight the senses for all home cooks whether city bound or country free.

Fascinating in scope and layout, this cookbook includes it all. From antique heirloom recipes passed down through generations to homemade favorites built around the family garden to income-generating recipes suitable for entrepreneurial spirits in need of extra funds, home cooks will discover all sorts of possibilities when it comes to growing, making and enjoying your own food.
