 Mueller's products come to you, from a modern sunlit plant, in triple-sealed packages , protected from dust and germs. They come to you with a tradition of quality behind them that goes back over 70 years... (C. F. Mueller  Co, 1937)

{HISTORY}

An American cooking staple since the 19th century, Mueller's Macaroni Products was started by one man, Christian Mueller in Jersey City, NJ in 1867. Follow immigration from Germany, this intrepid baker sold his handmade egg noodles via basket to local residents around town. As happens with all good and wonderful things in life, this humble endeavor grew over the years to include more customers, more requests and more handmade pasta.

Two decades later, Christian's pasta could be found in most East Coast grocery stores and in most home pantries. Through a series of company tradings and acquisitions, Mueller's is still going strong today and can still be found in most grocery stores and home kitchens.

In 1937, Mueller's published this recipe booklet featuring serving suggestions and recipes for year-round enjoyment. There is an urban myth that most people made spaghetti sauce out of ketchup during the first half of the 20th century for lack of a better understanding of what traditional tomato sauce actually consisted of, but this cookbook proves that wrong with their basic tomato sauce recipe.  It may not have been the most authentic version straight from Italy but it is much closer to an authentic sauce recipe than ketchup:)

Other fun elements of this 30-page booklet include recipes for both cold and warm weather, great graphic design, and wonderful photographs and illustrations throughout. Pasta is such a universally loved food, it is fun to see how it was being enjoyed in all sorts of inventive ways back in the 1930s when it was just a 50-year-old brand as opposed to a 150-year-old brand today!
